BWS recognized for its Outstanding Efforts to Address Invasive Species With its Water Master Plan

Hawaii Invasive Species Council and State Legislature recognize BWS

HONOLULU – In honor of Hawaii Invasive Species Awareness week, The Honolulu Board of Water Supply (BWS) was awarded as the Oahu County “MVP” of 2018 by the Hawaii State Legislature and the Hawaii Invasive Species Council (HISC).  HISC said BWS serves as a “perfect example of outstanding efforts to support the mission of HISC”.

HISC says BWS “recognizes the connection between healthy forests and a healthy water supply” by helping to remove invasive plants. HISC thanks and honors BWS employees who volunteer their time to help pull invasive plants that would otherwise harm the forest’s ability to restore water to aquifers.

BWS Manager and Chief Engineer, Ernest Lau thanks BWS employees and says, “This recognition is due to the teamwork of exceptional participants”.  HISC says “BWS is a model for how Oahu landowners can work together to achieve island-wide eradication of the watershed’s most damaging plants”.

Hawaii’s Twenty-Ninth Legislature honors and commends 2018 Hawaii Invasive Species Awareness Week Award Recipient in the Oahu MVP category, Honolulu Board of Water Supply (BWS) and thanks BWS for its dedication to preserve and protect “our beautiful paradise and our irreplaceable native species”.

HISC is a state interdepartmental collaboration established in 2003 by the State Legislature. HISC provides policy level direction, coordination, and planning among state departments, federal agencies, international and local initiatives for controlling and eradicating harmful invasive species’ infestation.
