To increase awareness of our island's fresh water and the importance of conservation for sustainable resource management, the BWS periodically hosts special events and contests for our island communities.

Imagine A Day Without Water
Special Events: The Board of Water Supply’s annual Imagine a Day Without Water event will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Ark of Safety, Waiʻanae Mall. The free, family-friendly event will feature interactive exhibits, hands-on activities, educational displays, and community partners promoting water conservation and the One Water concept.

Annual Unthirsty Plant Sale
Special Events: Unless otherwise announced, the Honolulu Board of Water Supply hosts its Annual Unthirsty Plant Sale at its Hālawa Xeriscape Garden, at 99-1268 ʻIwaena Street in Hālawa Valley’s Central Park industrial area on the first Saturday in August. Admission is free. Park on ʻIwaena Street and catch a free shuttle to the garden.

Water Conservation Week
Special Events: Learn about the annual BWS Water Conservation Week Poster & Poetry contests and events. These events promote awareness of our island's limited drinking water supply and encourage Oʻahu's youth to become more water-efficient.

Detect-A-Leak Week
Special Events: The Detect-A-Leak Week campaign encourages residents and businesses to find and fix common household leaks that often go unnoticed, wasting our precious water supply and increasing utility bills. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, household leaks can waste nearly 900 billion gallons of water a year -- equal to the annual water use of nearly 11 million homes. Each year, BWS partners with other agencies and businesses to help raise awareness.

Special Events: Think you’ve got conservation smarts? Put your water wisdom to the test and win while helping protect Oʻahu’s most precious resource. Join us on Instagram (@BWSHonolulu) on February 4, 2026, and February 11, 2026, for a fun, fast-paced multiple-choice conservation trivia challenge.
