Creating Cactus Art (A Paint in the Garden Workshop)

Halawa Xeriscape Garden Workshop

What

The first of our “Paint in the Garden,” Series, is a fun-filled, NO PAINTING EXPERIENCE REQUIRED workshop! All participants receive step by step instructions from start to finish, and at the same time learn about the care and unique characteristics of the Prickly Pear cactus as well as a brief history of the impressionistic art movement.  In real life, this very drought tolerant plant can help reduce outdoor water consumption when used in your landscape. This new and exciting, hands-on workshop is offered by the Board of Water Supply (BWS), Friends of Halawa Xeriscape Garden (FOHXG) and Erika Brown, member of FOHXG.

Details

Participants will have fun creating an impressionistic, vibrant cactus painting on a spacious 11”x 14” canvas. Instructor Erika Brown will coach students on the use of acrylic paints and how to use layering, blending and shading techniques to give their masterpiece just the right look. The Creating Cactus Art is an adult only workshop where participants will not only learn to paint this well-loved edible cactus, they will learn about its versatility and how using it in their landscape or container garden will help reduce outdoor water consumption. We recommend packing a meal and/or snack with beverage, and an apron.
