NOTICE: Until further notice, the Halawai Xeriscape Garden (HXG) tour is suspended.
The Halawa Xeriscape Garden (HXG) displays xeric (dry) plants in a residential-scale setting to demonstrate how gardens can be visually attractive, while using less water than most popular garden plants. The garden is a three-acre landscaped park, located at 99-1268 Iwaena Street in Halawa Valley's Central Park Industrial Area, that promotes outdoor water conservation.
Visitors to the garden will see numerous varieties of native and introduced plants that conserve water, water-saving irrigation systems, mulches, and other xeriscape ideas. The garden is open to the public on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Public open hours feature pre-registered workshops.
Free 1-hour group garden tours are available by appointment. The tours are available for kindergarten and older. Please review the additional tour information before submitting a request for a tour through our online form or by email using a fillable PDF form.
"Our tours were excellent!...The walk through the outdoor garden was very informative. Our students were encouraged to use their senses as they observed, smelled, and touched different plants."
The garden is open to the public for self-guided tours every Wednesday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Upon arrival, visitors need to sign-in at the Garden office window.
