Get more information, more quickly during an emergency by signing up for HNL Alert, the City and County of Honolulu’s mass notification system for O’ahu’s residents and and visitors. With HNL Alert, subscribers can choose the types events to be alerted about and how they wish to be notified. Subscribers can even enter one or more addresses to get targeted alerts about events impacting specific areas of concern, including home and workplaces.
The City uses HNL Alert in addition to warning systems that don’t require sign up, such as wireless alerts that sound on your mobile device, sirens, and alerts that interrupt radio and TV. While some warning systems are intended for urgent emergency situations, HNL Alert can keep you informed about developing weather conditions and other situations affecting City services that our communities rely on. HNL Alert messages can contain more details, include images and links to real-time information, and don’t disappear quickly from subscribers' devices so they have more time to read and understand the information or share it with others.

Boil Water Notice from Pūpūkea Road to Waialua at 68-431 Farrington Highway Has Been Lifted - 3/25, 3:00 PM Update
News Release - 4:00 PM Update: The Board of Water Supply received the first set of water quality test results this afternoon. The results were negative for bacteriological contamination and the boil water notice for the system that serves the following areas has been lifted: All of Pūpūkea, All of Sunset Beach, Waialeʻe, Turtle Bay Resort, and Kuilima Estates East and West.

Boil Water Notice for Pūpūkea Rd to Turtle Bay Has Been Lifted - 3/24, 4:00 PM Update
News Release - 4:00 PM Update: The Board of Water Supply received the first set of water quality test results this afternoon. The results were negative for bacteriological contamination and the boil water notice for the system that serves the following areas has been lifted: All of Pūpūkea, All of Sunset Beach, Waialeʻe, Turtle Bay Resort, and Kuilima Estates East and West. These communities are now free to consume the water without boiling it first. The water has been verified safe to drink.

Boil Water Notice Issued for North Shore – 3/24 12:00 PM Update
News Release - 12:00 PM Update: Water tankers are available for public use 24/7; however, they may need to be pulled temporarily for refilling. Due to potential damage to the water system caused by March 2026 Kona Low 2, the Honolulu Board of Water Supply (BWS) continues to remind all water users on the North Shore from Mokulēʻia to Turtle Bay to boil any water pulled from the tap prior to consumption as a precaution. This boil water notice is in effect until further notice. DO NOT DRINK THE WATER WITHOUT BOILING IT FIRST.

BWS Asks for Water Conservation During Storm - 3/21 5:00 AM
News Release - 5:00 AM: The Board of Water Supply (BWS) urges all residents to continue to conserve water during this weekend’s storm and use it for essential purposes only – drinking, cooking, and hygiene. Power outages are impacting BWS’s entire water system serving the North Shore community, from Waialua and Mokulēʻia all the way around the top of the island to Kawela.

Due to potential damage to the water system caused by March 2026 Kona Low 2, the Honolulu Board of Water Supply (BWS) is notifying all water users in Waialua,Mokulēʻia, Haleʻiwa, Sunset, Pūpūkea, and Waialeʻe, ending at Turtle Bay to boil any water pulled from the tap prior to consumption as a precaution. This boil water notice is in effect until further notice. DO NOT DRINK THE WATER WITHOUT BOILING IT FIRST.

BWS Asks for Water Conservation During Storm - 3/13 5:00 PM
News Release - 5:00 PM: Due to the impact of the Kona storm today, Friday, March 13, 2026, the Board of Water Supply (BWS) urges all residents to continue to conserve water and use it for essential purposes only – drinking, cooking, and hygiene. All residents, especially those without power, should keep water use to an absolute minimum and should not fill containers at this time. All BWS pumps need electricity to operate. During a power outage, the BWS will have limited ability to pump water out of its wells and other water sources and up to reservoirs. Until power can be restored, the water left in the reservoirs will be all that is available.
