Contest Rules & Requirements

Water Conservation Week Contests

Contest Deadline: Friday, February 28, 2025 at 4:30 p.m.

General Rules & Requirements

  • All entries must reflect the theme of the contest as it relates to fresh drinking water. Ocean water, bottled water, bottled drinks, or ocean life featured in the work will be disqualified.
  • Students must author their own poetry/draw their own poster. Collaborative and plagiarized work will be disqualified.
  • Students may submit only one entry.
  • All entries must be clearly labeled on the back, upper left corner with the student's full name, grade, school name, and teacher's full name. If an entry is not clearly labeled, it will be disqualified. Typed labels are recommended.
    • In the poster category, only teacher and student information may be submitted online. The original artwork for each poster entry must still be labeled and submitted by the contest deadline to be considered. Teachers who submit information online may clip entry labels from their acknowledgement email and affix those to the corresponding artwork as instructed.
    • Each poetry entry submitted online must be uploaded as a separate PDF document, with the required label information placed in the upper left corner of the second (back) page of the file. For the PDF file name, please use the following naming convention: Student Last Name - School - Teacher Last Name (e.g. lee-moanalua-abrams.pdf).
  • All entries must be accompanied by one completed entry form, whether submitted through the online form or the paper form. If submitting multiple entries for various student grades, please submit one completed entry form per grade. If a completed entry form is not received, the entry/entries will be disqualified.
  • Additional Poster Contest Requirements (Kindergarten to 6th Grade):
    • SIZE CHANGE. Posters must be on 11- x 17-inch paper, landscape or portrait
format. Contest rules have been revised to now accept 11- x 17-inch paper. 12- x 18-inch paper will still be accepted as we transition to the new paper requirements.
    • Measure carefully -- Posters larger or smaller in size will be disqualified. Undersized artwork mounted on 11"x17" poster board and/or paper will be disqualified.
    • Poster entries using chalk, charcoal, oil-based crayons, electronic mediums, or three-dimension art will be disqualified.
  • Additional Poetry Contest Requirements (7th Grade to 12th Grade)
    • Poetry entries of any style are acceptable.
    • Entries must be 150 words or less, and no longer than 20 lines. Longer entries will be disqualified.
    • Entries must be submitted on standard 8.5"x11", letter-sized paper.
    • Poetry must be typewritten or printed from a computer or saved as a PDF (for online submission). Handwritten entries will be disqualified.
