Annual Unthirsty Plant Sale


2026 Annual Unthirsty Plant Sale | August 1, 2026 | Hālawa Xeriscape Garden

The public is invited to the 2026 Annual Unthirsty Plant Sale at Hālawa Xeriscape Garden, at 99-1268 Iwaena Street, Saturday, August 1, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. featuring beautiful drought tolerant plants for sale and conservation resource information booths. The three-acre garden, a lush oasis nestled in Hālawa Valleyʻs Central Park industrial area, is a live display of drought tolerant and native plant varieties. Payments via major credit card only (no cash). Admission is free. Free street parking on Iwaena Street and catch a free shuttle to the garden. Current Friends of Hālawa Xeriscape Garden members can show their membership card for 10% off plant purchases.

The Plant Sale is a family-friendly event offering:

  • A variety of xeric plants by local vendors
  • Community Partner and Government Agency featuring displays, demonstrations, interactive activities, giveaways and more (see details below)
  • Free home gardening advice from the UH Master Gardner “Plant Doctors” booth
  • Free Mini workshops: (10 a.m.) Rain Barrel Water Catchment and (11 a.m.) presented by UH Master Gardeners
  • Free soil conditioner will be available while supplies last (one bag per person)
  • and more!

This annual event is focused on xeriscaping, a creative way to reduce outdoor water use through efficient landscaping. Event proceeds help to support educational activities at the Hālawa Xeriscape Garden. The open house is co-sponsored by the Friends of Hālawa Xeriscape Garden (FOHXG), a non-profit community group that supports educational programs related to water conservation in the landscape.

Membership Booth

  • If you are interested in early bird entry at 8:30 a.m. and 10% off plant purchases: Completed membership applications along with check payment must be received at our P.O. box by July 15, 2026, in order to be processed and mailed back to you before plant sale day. Download the FOHXG membership application, or call (808)748-5315 or email workshops@hbws.org no later than July 1, 2026 to request an application.
  • For normal event entry time: Attendees may also join or renew at plant sale event* at our booth near plant sale entrance on the lawn to receive 10% off plant purchases. (*Must join before you complete your plant purchases).

Sierra Club of Hawaiʻi

Visit a fun hands-on way to celebrate and uplift the importance of clean water by creating your own custom “Power Pin Bar” using recycled and craft materials. We will have special elements centered on life-giving waters—ola i ka wai.
