BWS AMATEUR RADIO CLUB
About the Club
In 2019, the Board of Water Supply offered employees the opportunity to take an amateur radio class and earn their license. BWS offered the training as a voluntary course as it provided employees with skills that would be helpful for personal use, as well as for emergency communications during a disaster. Within two years, more than 30 BWS employees were licensed ham radio operators.
In September 2020, the Federal Communications Commission granted KH6BWS as the BWS club call sign. KH6BWS currently holds a weekly net on Wednesdays on the Honolulu Department of Emergency Management's linked repeaters.
