Lanikai Water System Improvements, Part II Project
Road Work Reduced Through July 4th Weekend

HONOLULU – The contractor for the Board of Water Supply’s (BWS) Lanikai Water System Improvements, Part II, project is prepping the new pipe this week for installation starting next week. There should be little to no road work for the rest of this week, but that is subject to change.

There will be no construction through the holiday weekend and work will resume on Tuesday, July 6, 2021. The following areas are affected:

•    Kalaheo Avenue from Kailua Road to Lihiwai Road
•    Lihiwai Road from Kalaheo Avenue to Kawailoa Road
•    Kawailoa Road from Lihiwai Road to Popoia Road

This updated schedule is subject to change. When road work resumes, working hours will be Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., except for observed state holidays, and will involve lane closures and contra-flowed traffic, as well as brief, complete road closures at various locations throughout the work area. Area residents and motorists are advised to expect delays and exercise caution when driving through the worksite during construction hours. Based on the current schedule, this phase of the project will be completed by the end of August 2021. Subsequent phases of the project will focus on replacing the pipe along the bridge. This work is anticipated to be completed by December 2021.

This is also a reminder there is no public parking allowed along any street in Lanikai, Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., through December.  Travel in the area should be limited to local traffic only.  The BWS appreciates the community’s patience and kokua as this important project is completed. The work will result in a better and more resilient water system for the residents.
