Hawaii Kai Residents Asked to Conserve Water From Today to Friday, Sept. 4

HONOLULU – The Board of Water Supply (BWS) is asking customers in Hawaii Kai, from Keahole St. to the Hawaii Kai Golf Course, to please use water for essential needs only from today until Friday, Sept. 4. BWS crews are working to repair a leaky valve on a transmission main on Kalanianaole Highway near the entrance to the Hawaii Kai Golf Course.

This main helps provide some water to the Hawaii Kai area. The work has caused the main to be temporarily taken out of service. To help reduce area water demand, customers are asked to use water for cooking, drinking, and personal sanitation needs only until the valve repair is completed.

The BWS is also notifying large water users in the area, including parks, schools, shopping centers, and large residential buildings, to ask for their cooperation to conserve water as well.

The repair work is also affecting traffic on Kalanianaole Hwy., near the golf course. A portion of the town-bound lane is closed; special duty officers have been asked to help direct traffic and signage has been placed. Motorists should anticipate delays and plan accordingly.

Updates on the valve repair work will be available on BWS social media, including Facebook, Twitter, and Nextdoor, as well as on the City’s HNL.info app.
