HONOLULU – Board of Water Supply (BWS) crews have addressed a water system issue that was causing dirty water in the Kalani Iki and lower Waialae Iki areas. Customers should run their taps for a few minutes before using the water for drinking, cooking, and brushing teeth.
BWS will still need to flush the water from the reservoir serving the community. This reservoir is now shut off from supplying water to the area and will be flushed by fire pumpers located at Laukahi Street and Kuhilani Street. There will be noise from the pumpers overnight. BWS field crews will be going door to door to alert the residents of the situation. BWS stated that they apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate the community’s patience while the work is being done.
The cause of the dirty water is related to a 24-inch main break that occurred on Kahala Avenue in April. When pressures were increased in the main earlier today, it created a disturbance to the water system that caused the dirty water.
Questions and comments may be directed to the BWS 24-7 trouble line at 748-5000 extension 1.
