Honolulu Board of Water Supply and Hardware Hawaii Kick Off Detect-A-Leak Week Campaign

Leak Detection and Repair Saves Water and Money

HONOLULU – The Honolulu Board of Water Supply (BWS), in partnership with Hardware Hawaii, is launching Detect-A-Leak Week from March 16-22, 2020, to encourage all Oahu residents to check for property leaks.

According to the United States Environmental Protection Agency, the average American home can waste more than 10,000 gallons of water every year from running toilets, dripping faucets, and other household leaks. That’s why it’s important for all water users to check their plumbing fixtures for leaks.

During Detect-A-Leak Week, all Oahu water users are asked to check for leaks in toilets, plumbing fixtures, irrigation systems, and other water-using equipment. To help with this effort, free toilet leak detection dye tablets are available at all Satellite City Halls, Hardware Hawaii stores, and the BWS lobby at 630 South Beretania Street. Hardware Hawaii is also offering a 20 percent discount on toilet accessories, such as wax rings, flappers, supply lines, shut off and tank fill valves from March 16-22. Please see stores for qualifying purchases and additional details.

Those who want to conduct their own leak inspection can visit the BWS’s website at www.boardofwatersupply.com and follow the BWS on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter for tips on how to check for leaks. More information is also available by calling 748-5041 or emailing contactus@hbws.org.
