Reservoir Removal Project in Kailua

Starting February 27, Board of Water Supply (BWS) contractor, Elite Pacific Construction, is scheduled to begin a project to remove an inactive reservoir and conduct facility repairs in the Kailua Heights area. Work for the project will take place on BWS property at the corner of Aupupu Street and Aunauna Street.  Working hours for the project will be Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The inactive reservoir to be removed was constructed in 1955 and was taken out of service around 2006 as the need for the reservoir diminished due to various water system upgrades in the Kailua Heights area.  Additional work at the site includes asbestos and lead paint remediation; upgrades to an existing control building including reroofing, repainting, ceiling tile replacement, wall reinforcement; and drainage and security improvements.  Any hazardous materials will be retained on-site during demolition and handled and disposed of (or recycled) off-site in accordance with all applicable Federal, State, and County rules and regulations.

The need for the projects was identified during regular site inspections of BWS facilities by the Department of Health.  Barring any unforeseen circumstances, the project is expected to be completed by the end of August 2018.  Questions and comments may be directed to the BWS Construction Section at 748-5730 or email contactus@hbws.org.
