Residents In Haiku Valley And Haiku Plantations May Experience Air In Tap Water Over The Next Few Weeks

Water is safe to drink

HONOLULU – Board of Water Supply (BWS) customers in Haiku Valley and Haiku Plantations may experience signs of air in their tap water over the next few weeks, starting on Saturday, Dec. 18, 2021, as the BWS proceeds with water system improvement work in the area.  This situation is NOT related to the water quality issues at Red Hill or to the BWS’s shutdown of three wells.

The BWS would like to reassure Haiku Valley and Haiku Plantations customers that, despite the presence of air, the water is safe to drink.

Signs of air in the water include:

  • “Milky” or white appearance.
  • Water sputters out when you open the faucet.

If Haiku Valley and Haiku Plantations customers experience any of these situations, they should first pour the water into a clean and clear glass and let it sit. If there is air in the tap water, the water will eventually turn clear.

If the water does not eventually turn clear or customers still have concerns about their water, they are advised to report it to the BWS Communications Office at (808) 748-5041 or at
