BWS Rolling Out Conservation Media Program

Water conservation will be on residents' minds again, very soon. Starting Monday, August 12, the Board of Water Supply (BWS) will be reaching out to customers through various media with messages about avoiding water waste. Typically, from August through October temperatures start to rise and the BWS sees an increase in overall water use.

To reach as many Oahu water users as possible, messaging modes will include television, radio, mall boards, digital ads on other websites, and social media posts.

A new TV public service announcement (PSA), “Forms of Water” that depicts our precious water in various forms, was produced this year and added to our line-up of PSAs to urge customers to be water-efficient. Much mahalo to Camryn Chun (whose dad is Marc Chun) and Josie Schoenstein (whose mom is former BWS employee Kalei Schoenstein) who appear in the spot!

The PSAs will run on KGMB, KHNL, KHON, KITV, and various Spectrum Cable channels. Here are links to the spots:

  • “Journey” (2018)
  • “Shower Buddy” (2018)
  • “Forms of Water” (2019)

To reach morning rush-hour and pau-hana traffic commuters, the BWS will air radio spots on top rated FM stations KSSK, KUMU, KRTR, and KINE along with their sister stations KDDB, KCCN, KQMQ, and KPOI. The BWS will also support programs on KHPR.

  • “Little Leak” (2019)

  • “Take for Granted” (2019)

Eye-catching mall boards at shopping centers throughout the island will remind shoppers to help the BWS conserve water.

Additionally, digital ads on various TV media webpages will connect users to a quick and fun quiz to test how much they know about the 7 Easy Ways to Save Water and encourage them to challenge other folks. You can check out the test by clicking here. Good luck!
