Lanikai Water System Improvements, Part II Project

MIRA Image Construction, LLC, the Board of Water Supply’s (BWS) contractor for the Lanikai Water System Improvements, Part II project is working to install approximately 1,455 feet of 16-inch water mains, 1,858 feet of 8-inch water mains, 200 feet of 6-inch water mains, and 180 feet of 4-inch water mains in the Lanikai and Kailua Beach areas.

The renewal of the water system will improve water service reliability and fire protection for customers in the area. Motorists are advised to expect slower than normal commute times.

PROJECT OVERVIEW

  • The project will install approximately 1,455 feet of 16-inch water mains, 1,858 feet of 8-inch water mains, 200 feet of 6-inch water mains, and 180 feet of 4-inch water mains. The current project work area is on Kalaheo Avenue from Kailua Road to Kawailoa Road between Kalapawai Market and Buzz's Steakhouse.

    As work progresses the project will also affect the following areas:
    • Kawailoa Road from Lihiwai Road to Popoia Road
    • Kawailoa Road from Alala Road to dead end
    • Alala Road between Kawailoa Road and Kaneapu Place
    • Mokolea Drive between Aalapapa Drive and Lanipo Drive
    • Koohoo Place between Aalapapa Drive and dead end
  • Road work hours: Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., excluding holidays.
  • No parking will be allowed along any street in Lanikai including cross streets, Mokulua and Aalapapa Drives from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm, Monday to Friday. These parking restrictions aim at maintaining emergency vehicle and resident access to and from the neighborhood. Please use alternate ways of access: walking, biking, or using TheBus Route 671 from Kailua Town to access Lanikai. This parking restriction is expected to last through December 2021.

This project will involve traffic modifications and lane closures along the work site. When the project begins road users are advised to obey all traffic controls, posted signs, and special duty officers.
