Contest Deadline: Thursday, February 28, 2019 at 4:30 p.m.

The Honolulu Board of Water Supply (BWS) is now accepting entries for 2019 Water Conservation Week Poster & Poetry Contests. This year’s theme is "Do Your Part, Be Water Smart." Creatively express why it’s important to use our precious drinking water resource wisely and offer ideas of how to be more water-efficient in our daily lives.

  • The 41st Annual Water Conservation Week Poster Contest is open to Oahu students in grades Kindergarten to 6.
  • The 11th Annual Water Conservation Week Poetry Contest is open to Oahu students in grades 7 to 12.

For more than four decades, the poster contest has instilled conservation awareness in Oahu’s youth and encouraged them to take an active role in ensuring the long-term sustainability of Oahu’s water supply. In 2009, the poetry contest was added in an effort to expand the program to reach Oahu’s middle and high school students.

Thousands of students enter the contest each year and, since 1987, the winners’ artwork has been featured in the BWS’s Annual Water Conservation Calendar, which is distributed at the end of every year. Each spring, the BWS honors the winners during an Awards Ceremony recognizing them for their award-winning work. Following the Awards Ceremony, winning posters and poems become part of a touring exhibit at Lane Gallery (Honolulu Hale), Kapolei Hale, and at other locations around the Oahu.

For more information, contact the BWS Communications Office at 748-5041 or contactus@hbws.org with questions.
