Free Mulch

The Board of Water Supply, in partnership with Hawaiian Earth Products, will be offering free mulch every Saturday at the Halawa Xeriscape Garden between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.

People interested in obtaining free mulch should come prepared with their own containers and shovels, and be able to carry and load their mulch without assistance from garden staff.

Using mulch in gardens helps conserve water and allows plants to grow healthier because of increased water filtration.  Mulch reduces pooling of water and evaporation so plants don't have to be watered as often.  It also supplies additional nutrients to the soil.

To locate additional free mulch sites, visit www.opala.org and click on the Green Waste hotlink (lower right hand corner of the page).

The Halawa Xeriscape Garden is located at 99-1268 Iwaena Street in Halawa Valley's Central Park Industrial Area.  For more information about the garden or for driving directions, click here.
