Emergency Access Bridge at Nanakuli Open During Construction Hours In response to requests from the community, the Board of Water Supply (BWS) will be diverting eastbound traffic from Farrington Highway onto the emergency access bridge and Pohakunui Avenue during regular construction hours (Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m.-3:00 p.m.), as part of our ongoing water main replacement project in Nanakuli. The BWS has received approval from various agencies to open the emergency access bridge on a trial basis to mitigate traffic congestion when our water system improvement project is fronting the Nanakuli bridge and stream. This proposed traffic management plan will allow for an additional eastbound lane of traffic - totaling two eastbound lanes - during this phase of the project. The emergency access bridge will be opened to smaller vehicles going eastbound on Farrington Highway. Larger vehicles traveling eastbound must stay on Farrington Highway; a special duty police officer will help separate the traffic. From the bridge, traffic will be diverted onto Pohakunui Avenue and then back on Farrington Highway through Piliokahi Avenue. When the bridge is open, motorists traveling within Nanakuli Beach Park and also on Pohakunui Avenue between Laumania and Piliokahi Avenues will be restricted to traveling one-way in the eastbound direction. The BWS will take all necessary safety precautions when implementing this plan, including hiring additional special duty police officers and placing appropriate signs and cones Click image to view larger map. |
