2010 Water Conservation Week Poster & Poetry Contests

"Let the Contests Begin!" BWS Launches the 2010 Poster and Poetry Contests
2010 Calendar also available to the public.

The Honolulu Board of Water Supply (BWS) is eager to usher in its 32nd Annual Poster Contest and 2nd Annual Poetry Contest.  Oahu's bright young minds are asked to interpret this year's theme, "Stop the Drop," through art and poetry as a way to learn and better understand the value of water conservation.

The poster contest is open to Oahu keiki in grades Kindergarten to 6, while the poetry contest is open to Oahu students in grades 7 to 12.

2010 Contest Theme

"Stop the Drop", the 2010 contest theme, is aimed at educating island keiki about the importance of leak detection.  So, why is it important?  Leak detection saves both water and money.  According to the Environmental Protection Agency, a leaky faucet that drips at the rate of one drip per second can waste more than 3,000 gallons in one year - that's enough water to fill 60 large fish tanks!  Regular leak detection and repair are simple ways to save money and prevent millions of gallons of water from being lost.

Worksheets, games, and helpful hints - as well as a "how to check for leaks" handout and instructional video - provide detailed information on the importance of leak detection.
